In the animal kingdom, certain species offer unique opportunities. For example, electric eels generate substantial voltage to hunt or defend themselves. Scientists have studied their electric organs to inspire bioelectric generators, though replicating this on a large scale remains a challenge.
On a microbial level, some bacteria can transfer electrons to external electrodes during their metabolic processes, effectively generating electricity.
